Will an unlocked iphone still work if you don't update? Next Post

This guy i know just bought the iPhone 3G and i want his old iPhone to unlock for t-mobile. the reason im asking if it works for Verizon is this other guy also wants it but im trying to prove to him that it wont work on verizon, so can someone back that up with some good information? thanks!

I CAN BACK YOU UP!

It will not work on Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless uses CDMA technology which DOES NOT use SIM Cards. CDMA technology is the most popular in the United States, but the least popular worldwide.

AT&T uses GSM which DOES use SIM Cards. The GSM technology is not as popular here in the USA, but is very popular worldwide.

You cannot take a phone that uses SIM Cards to a network that does not use SIM Cards. It goes the other way also.

The word "unlocked" does not even exist for a CDMA phone.

Carriers that use
*CDMA include: Verizon, Sprint, Metro PCS, Alltel, US Cellular, CriKet, Surewest

*GSM include: T-Mobile, AT&T, and some other off sellers.

I wrote a long blog about it at my Yahoo! 360 if you want more info about the technologies.

Nope. The iPhone will only work with GSM signals or towers- and you need a SIM card. Since around here at least, T-Mobile and AT&T are the only services that use SIM cards so there is no possible way (yet) to use an iPhone on Verizon or Sprint.

no because they both use different technology. Verizon uses CDMA which doesn't even involve a sim card and tmobile art use gsm which does us a sim card.
