How do you unlock the iphone for it to work in another country?

I'm going on vacation this summer to Vietnam. I was wondering if there's a way to unlock the iPhone and have it be able to use other sim cards. Is there a free software to unlock the iPhone? When I get back, can I reverse the unlock and put the iPhone back to normal? Thanks..
