After picking up the new iPhone 3g, I wanted ringtones just like everyone out there. But obviously I didn’t want to pay for them. I mean who would really “want” to pay for them if you can make your own for free? Someone told me how to create my own using any mp3 and garageband. So I thought I’d pass the knowledge. Custom ringtones.
step 1
right click the song you want as a ringtone and select get info.
step 2
click on options and select start and end time to a no more than 40 second margin.
step 3
close window and convert the song to an aac file.
step 4
right click on the converted file and select display in finder, then delete the converted file from itunes, but select keep file
step 5
go to the file in finder and change the file name suffix to m4r, then keep m4r.
step 6
double click on the song in finder and it will appear in the ringtone section of itunes!

how to get free ringtones for your iphone
How to get iphone ringtones free.
What you need.
*itunes
*iphone
*Your favorite song
and thats about it.
Heres it again if your a slow reader:]
1. Find a song in your itunes library.
2. Right Click it.
3. Go to “Get Info”.
4. Click on “OPTIONS’.
5. Find and change the “Start Time” and “End Time”, to a part of the song you like(It must be 40sec. or lower)’
6. After changing the start time and end time click “OK”.
7. Then Right Click on the song again.
8. Then find and click on “CONVERT SELECTION TO AAC”.
9. Then wait till that is done.
10. After its finished go to your itunes library and find the newly made short version of your song you just made.
11. Then drag and drop the newly made song into any folder outside of itunes.
12. Then change the extention of the song to .m4r
13. Now it should say RING on the tone.(In the folder not in itunes)
14. Double click on the “RING” file in the folder.
15. It will be added to your RINGTONES section, and start playing.
16. Then sync to your iphone.
17. Now your done:]
