What happens if i update an unlocked iphone?

if i buy an unlock iphone and update will the update go through then brick? if it does brick how do i get it to work again? i heard i can re-unlock it again and it will work is this possible?
no i am talking about the 3g and mine is unlocked and it works perfectly fine with t-mobile

I assume you are talking about 2G iPhone, since 3G cannot be unlocked as of time of this answer.
