Unlocked iphone update question?
Posted by admin on Sunday Jun 6, 2010 Under iphone updateI'm thinking of getting an unlocked iPhone. However, there is a new firmware that could possibly damage it. Are firmwares mandatory? If not, then I could theoretically use the original firmware and be fine, correct? Also, which iTunes do I need to run the UNLOCKED iPhone on to add music, video, etc. without need to update it?
Please help.
Basically, at this point in time. I wouldn't even bother investing money in the iPhone. Especially since Apple seems fixed on making sure you can't do anything outside of what they want you to do with it.
It's really sad. It's like buying a computer a being told you can't use certain internet providers because the manufactures don't want you to. Or buying a car and having to use a certian gas station. What ever happened to freedom?

Ues you can run the iPhone with out the new firmware update. But a few things will happen. The first thing is that you will miss out on the new iTunes WiFi and any new features they add in the future. The second thing is that everytime you connect to the computer it will try to update it, which will get annoying. A third thing is that you will void the warranty so if something happens you are out of luck. Finally knowing Apple they will create a way that you will not be able to add new songs or anything like that without the update. If I were you and I really wanted to unlock it I would wait untill after the update comes out because the iPhone DEV team the ones who provided the free unlock will attempt to unlock it again after the update. But it is up to you.

Firmware updates to ANY modded or hacked device almost always threaten to disable or 'brick' it, rendering it useless. This is true. It happened with the Sony PSP when hackers first modded it. If you updated it, it would become completely and totally useless…a brick. BUT WAIT! Just several weeks later, bricked PSPs could be made usable and moddable again. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
Corporations will always try to thwart attempts at circumnavigating their original design. And consumers (hackers, modders, etc.) will always be one step ahead or behind. This is the nature of the industry. How many millions of computer viruses are out there…then the antivirus guys fix it, then theres another, then theres a fix and on and on and on and on. Same with the iPhone hacks, PSP hacks, Wii hacks, Xbox360 hacks, etc. etc.
Its amazing that Apple's firmware updates are actually making news. In the gaming industry, this happens constantly and no one ever hears about it. Nintendo's Wii firmware updates display the '…altered devices may become inoperable…' It may, but again, give it a while and that firmware won't matter.
So…You can either not accept firmware updates, or just wait it out.
