I want the iphone 3g but i dont have att..i was thinking about buying an unlocked one off of ebay
Does ATT still have to activate if i have a different carrier?
Pros: You can use it with any other carrier and basically use it wherever you want because you will have the correct carrier SIM card.
Cons: You will not be able to use all the features. Even if you can get the settings set up, by Apple or your carrier, you'll be able to use a few of the features, but there are some features that will work only with AT&T / Cingular

-Isnt safe off ebay
-Alot more expensive then just ending a contract and signing up for a new one
-Cheaper to be on AT&T
-YouTube doesnt work with some Unlocking methods if it isnt Unlocked though Apple
-From what i know GPS doesnt work with some plans outside of AT&T

Pros- There are an unlimited amount of carriers you may use the phone with, you will not have to pay the $30 data plan
Cons- You will not get the full functionality of the phone, if your carrier such as T-mobile doesn't have 3G you will not get the full phone name iPhone 3G!!! not iPhone EDGE network. If you are coming from a non sim card carrier you will have to pay a contract ending fee of $175
