On-demand web video service Joost's new (and free) iPhone application, launched Monday, streams its entire online library of 45,000-plus videos to users on WiFi networks, according to CEO Mike Volpi. A large portion of the library will be available on 3G within a month: "The technology is basically ready," he says. Volpi spoke to me about the launch from London Monday via video Skype.

Joost has a number of big-name content partnerships with companies including CBS, Viacom, Sony, Warner Music Group, Warner Brothers, and Turner, so it has some pretty great videos to offer: 1,200 shorts and movies (like Men in Black), 400 TV series (like The Daily Show) and around 18,000 music videos.

In the segment, Volpi describes the features of the application, such as its list of most popular videos within the user's geographic area.

I read that only a certain amount of youtube videos are encoded to play on the iPhone 3g youtupe app. What percentage of videos actually work, and how do they choose which ones do?

most of them work

they’re low quality if you play it on 3g, but they’re pretty sharp if you’re under wifi

Hi i was just wondering How much will the Iphone 3g cost on pay as you go? Its $199 on CONTRACT in the US but how much in ££££ is it in the uk on pay and go?

If you hack into the iPhone you will be able to get a contracted iPhone and switch it to pay as you go, my brothers friend did this for his iPhone and it works:D

Hi, I'm considering buying an iPhone 3g. I've never owned an iPhone before, but I've heard a lot about it choking your wallet with hidden fees. Can someone tell me all the fees associated with owning an iPhone on a family plan with texting on AT&T? I'll provide additional details if necessary.

the iphone costs $199 for 8gb and $299 for 16bg. i recommend the 16g version, the extra $100 is worth it considering how much extra memory you get for applications, music, pictures, etc., which take up quite a bit of memory. on top of that, a $30 data charge per month is required with the phone (which includes unlimited internet and email). if you are interested in a business data plan (which includes the same as the previous plan, except with enterprise features, allowing for inter-office contact lists and other networking features), it will cost you $45 per month. texting does not come with the data plan, and costs $20 a month for unlimited and $30 a month for unlimited family texting. there are other options available with fewer texting, but i don't advise it- i easily do 1000+ texts a month. otherwise, there is an $18 upgrade fee to the iphone (regardless of your previous phone).

those are all of the charges for the iphone. just a word of advice, go into the at&t store and place an order for it- shipments are usually unreliable and sometimes you might wait in line and come out with nothing. i ordered mine a few days ago, black 16gb and i can't wait for it to come in. unfortunately though, they said shipping should be 2-4 weeks, and it has to be picked up and activated at the store. good luck.
